Itinerary

We have carefully planned out each day to give you the best possible experience. From exploring historic landmarks to tasting delicious local cuisine, each day is packed with adventure and excitement. Join us as we take you on a journey through some of the most fascinating destinations in the world.

The bell rings, and you begin a gradual, satisfying climb up the koppie as the last of the day begins to fade and you catch one more glimpse of Renosterberg in the distance. The path leads to a large, lovely dam that at night becomes a shimmering mirror to the stars above as the rolling gravel road gradually darkens, illuminated only by the quiet trot of runners with headlamps. A unique nighttime run in the Karoo, the route slowly goes home via a magnificent portion of the poplar tree forest and ends beside the 200-year-old stone walls.

You start your 14-kilometer trek with a relaxing, winding stretch through the enchanted poplar forest. The Dwarsvlei farm paddocks, which are home to chatty cows and plump, fluffy sheep, are subsequently traversed by a rolling jeep track. At the first water point, the trail continues through an old road culvert to Atlantic Coffee, a coffee lover’s paradise. Remember to take a snap photo on the iconic couch by the Dwarsvlei siding sign!
Renosterberg can be seen in the distance, along with inquisitive animals like slow-moving tortoises and springbuck.

The 22 km route offers the best views.  Starting beside the 100-year-old Nourse shed. The jeep track leads under a road culvert to the Java-friendly waterpoint and selfie zone. After a cappuccino and a quick pose on the Dwarsvlei couch, runners ascend a graded jeep track along Renosterberg.

At the summit, refill your bottles at a self-help waterpoint, then enjoy a rewarding downhill. Another pit stop awaits at the old Dwarsvlei siding before striding along unused train tracks toward your final culvert crossing.
A long section of flowing single track guides you through the veld, past the last waterpoint, and up the 200-year-old stone wall koppie one final time. Flowing down homebound, you re-enter the poplar forest, cross a vintage bridge, and finish near the Dwarsvlei guest farm.

LOCATION

Dwarsvlei was once owned by Henry Nourse, one of the world’s most notable thoroughbred horse breeders, who at one point ran what was reputedly the largest thoroughbred stud in the Southern Hemisphere, with 200 brood mares kept on Dwarsvlei itself.
